The First of the Gloss studies started early in 1999. After the previous four years of free expression I wanted to focus my attention on the tiniest of details. To do this I began to use only one source of pigment found in industrial gloss. This led to a journey of discovery that became documented within each individual painting.
The paintings form and composition was left to the physical qualities of the paint. The paint no longer feeling the effect of the human hand was left to its own devices. The paintings elaborated the flaws and faults of the industrial paints.
The main challenge of this series was the application of the paint through minimal intervention. A system was devised whereby the effect of Human control was minimised although never really absent.
